I built my foundation on hard work, discipline, and commitment, with an underlying intrinsic desire to help people. Previous experiences have helped me in a variety of ways. Representing England when I was younger, for example, gave me a better understanding of the elite sports landscape.
This complements the work I’ve done with professional clubs like Barnsley FC, Bradford Bulls, Dewsbury Rams, and many more clubs as well as coaching professional athletes in various sports, has aided in the development of evidence-based skills in speed and conditioning. In addition, my family and previous work as a firefighter have instilled in me a firm set of personal values. This has improved my ability to work in high-pressure situations and become an effective problem solver.
Working through analytical processes and multiple disciplines to support my skills in coaching sprinting mechanics to the professional through to amateur athletes, problem-solving movement issues, and developing logical processes to aid in the athlete’s maximum development.
The LEARN | TRAIN | SUSTAIN principles support my coaching philosophy and how I like to develop athletes. Everyone, in my opinion, is an athlete. As humans, we require certain movements and functions. Individuals can achieve greater success by cultivating these traits/characteristics.
LEARN – By learning about movements in multiple ways allows individuals to build a portfolio of their strengths and weaknesses and also develops a further technical understanding of how to perform movements more effectively.
TRAIN – Once the learning of movements and other facets becomes embedded, the individual will stress the components out, completing various training modes and principles that will enhance the adaptation process.
SUSTAIN – The final stage but an overall underpinning process through the training model, we build it around sustainability. Everything the athlete learns and trains need to be sustainable to the athlete. This is bespoke to the athlete and changes accordingly.
At The Speed Mechanic, we work strategically and creatively to educate and develop individuals to reach their speed capabilities. We do this by increasing confidence levels and developing better movements and faster individuals. Speed training that is decisive, accessible and innovative to increase your speed potential.
Athletes gain an advantage over their competitors by improving the components of speed and conditioning. Focusing on the key technical elements of sprinting and developing sound technique coupled with the ability to perform max speed work aids in improving this component, as does working on improving Vo2 max and running economy.
